Deadly Deception

General Electric, Nuclear Weapons and Our Environment

Deadly Deception exposes the terrifying human and environmental cost of General Electric's role in nuclear weapons development. GE workers have been poisoned by radiation and asbestos at highly secret facilities like the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in upstate New York. Downwind of the Hanford, Washington nuclear bomb plant, members of 27 of the 28 families that lived on a stretch of road known as Death Mile, have suffered deadly cancers or birth defects. During the time GE managed the Hanford plant, GE knowingly released extensive amounts of radiation into the air and water.

Deadly Deception, released in 1991, depicts Infact's (now Corporate Accountability International) GE Boycott and Nuclear Weaponmakers Campaign, a grassroots movement that pressured GE to get out of the nuclear weapons business. Our hard-hitting documentary film won an Academy Award in 1992. GE finally sold its Aerospace Division in 1993, removing a powerful influence on nuclear weapons policymaking.

Corporate Accountability International responded by declaring victory and calling off the seven-year boycott. The film has been televised in over 60 countries.
